Streets of Banská Štiavnica
Streets of Banská Štiavnica

I visited Slovakia last year with my wife and it was “love at first sight”. Slovakia is captivating destination for summer. Far beyond its fairytale castles and rugged landscapes, this lesser-explored gem offers a many of experiences, in its rich culture, breathtaking nature, and warm hospitality.

The inspiration for traveling to Slovakia arose when I watched videos by PPPeter on YouTube, and also because Finland has won two ice hockey World Championships in Bratislava. I had also been considering the possibility of working in Slovakia at our Bratislava office for about a year, so it was nice to go and explore Slovakia a bit before a possible longer trip.

Of course, before the trip, we researched a lot and I also got tips from Slovakian colleagues about places worth visiting.

We traveled as follows:
July 21-22: Vienna
July 22-23: Bratislava
July 23-25: Nitra/Banská Štiavnica
July 25-29: Tatra’s (and Orava Castle/Poprad)
July 29-30: Bojnice
July 30-31: Bratislava/Vienna

We started our journey in in the cobblestone streets of Bratislava’s historic Old Town, where medieval charm meets vibrant modernity, more on that in a next post…
